The City of Grand Rapids Office of Sustainability will coordinate an in-person information session for you and your neighbors to learn about solar.

A Solarize Host is one person who is interested in buying solar for their home or organization.

1. Begin by soliciting quotes from solar installers and selecting a contractor.

The Host will receive competitive bids from multiple solar energy installers and choose one to work with based on any number of factors, just as you would choose any contractor for your home.

All Solarize installers participate with Michigan Saves, a green bank that offers low-interest financing for energy efficiency upgrades and solar. The Solar Installer will present their services at the in-person information session and provide quotes to interested participants.

The Solar Installer will also inform potential participants of any limitations for their properties that might prevent solar. Eligibility is also based on additional requirements for a safe installation such as: local building & electrical permits and an interconnection agreement with your utility (Consumers Energy).

Participants must live within 30 miles of Grand Rapids to be eligible for Solarize GR. Hosts and Solar Installers are strongly encourage to recruit participants to achieve the full group discount. The City of Grand Rapids Office of Sustainability will assist with promoting each Solarize GR opportunity.

A group discount of up to 15% is available for all participants if 15 contracts are established within 35 days (five weeks) of the info session. Participation is completely optional and anyone can to attend an info session just to learn.

Attending an info session is not required to participate in the group-buy discount but is highly encouraged..

Hosts, Solar Installers, and Participants are welcome to share information with neighbors. If you know someone who is interested in participating in the group-buy discount but can't attend an info session, send them the contact information for the solar installer and quote timeline.
