Communications Department

Our office manages press releases and handles requests from the media. The media relations division manages press releases for the City of Grand Rapids. The division manager handles our relationship with the media. He connects department representatives with media outlets and coordinates questions from the press.

We support all City departments conducting public participation efforts to educate or inform community members. This is accomplished through engagement policy development, advising on engagement design, and training to ensure the City's engagement activities are consistent and aligned with our values. 

We strive to reach every resident of Grand Rapids with not only up-to-date information on what's happening in our city, but also amplify the programs and offerings you can take advantage of.

Our office uses a variety of social media platforms to promote City events, resources, initiatives, and information. City of Grand Rapids social media pages are regulated by the Communications Department and maintained by various departments and offices. A list of all Social Media accounts can be found here. 

We stream a variety of City Commission meetings, produce informative videos to let you know what's happening within the City Government, and manage the City's video services and government access channel - Comcast Channel 26. 

We Are GR is a joint communications initiative between the City of Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Public Schools district, and the Grand Rapids Public Library. The physical newspaper is delivered to mailboxes throughout the Grand Rapids community and past issues can be found here.
