Sustainability
Welcome to the Grand Rapids Office of Sustainability!
The Office of Sustainability acts as a community partner, and educational resource, for maintaining healthy buildings, promoting clean & efficient energy technology, and reducing waste & pollution.
Our vision:
Grand Rapids will be a resilient, low-carbon city that centers equity in climate solutions to ensure a safe and healthy community.
Our mission:
To equitably build community resilience to climate change, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce pollution.
As a municipality, it's important for us to understand how our work impacts entire systems, people, and the environment. For this reason, the City of Grand Rapids maintains sustainability as one of our six core values.
The City defines sustainability as making decisions with the goal of achieving long-term net positive benefits that are informed by an understanding of how those decisions will impact climate resiliency and the environment, people and communities, and finances, both today and in the future.
