Chief of Police
Eric Winstrom
Eric Winstrom began his tenure on March 7, 2022. Prior to being named as the 15th Chief of Police for the Grand Rapids Police Department, he served in the Chicago Police Department (CPD) for over twenty years in various patrol, tactical, investigative, and administrative positions. At the time he left Chicago, he was an executive on the CPD Leadership Team and led the Area 5 Detective Division where he oversaw a staff of 200, including 40 homicide detectives. Geographically, Area 5 covers approximately one-fifth of the City of Chicago including the Northwest Side and O'Hare Airport. His previous assignments included teaching at the Chicago Police Academy, heading CPD's citywide child sex crimes investigation unit, serving as a supervising attorney in the legal affairs division, assisting in the creation of the office of reform management, overseeing policy and procedure for the department, and serving as captain of the 400-person 9th District Station. He holds a BS in Administration of Justice from Rutgers University and a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. Chief Winstrom is a court-recognized expert on police policy, use of force, criminal investigations, and the Fourth Amendment.

Deputy Police Chief - Field Operations
Joseph Trigg
Deputy Chief Joe Trigg was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. He earned an associate's degree at Grand Rapids Community College, continued his education at Grand Valley State University, and graduated from the police academy at Lansing Community College. He was hired by GRPD in 2001. As a patrol officer, he worked primarily in the North Neighborhood Service Area, which included serving as the Community Policing Specialist for three and a half years. As a sergeant, he worked in the East and South Neighborhood Service Areas, leading patrol operations in the South for two years. DC Trigg was promoted to lieutenant in 2016. He was first assigned to watch command before overseeing the Internal Affairs Unit. As a captain, DC Trigg was assigned as the commander of the South Neighborhood Service Area.
DC Trigg has held additional duty assignments as a Field Training Officer, a member of the department's Board of Awards, and as an advisor for Grand Rapids Police Explorer Post 1871, working with young people who are interested in learning about policing as a profession. He is a member of the department's Peer Support Team.
Deputy Police Chief - Administrative and Investigative Services
Michael Maycroft
Deputy Chief Michael Maycroft started his law enforcement career as an officer with the Norton Shores Police Department before joining GRPD in 1997. DC Maycroft has served in a number of capacities over his 27-year career at GRPD, including patrol officer, vice detective, background investigator/recruiter, the supervisor of community policing officers, public information officer, and, as a certified bomb technician, serves as the Bomb Squad Commander. He oversaw the Crime Prevention Unit, including the department's role in providing crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) analysis. He is a member of the Honor Guard, serving as commander from 2014-2021. He was the commander of the North Neighborhood Service Area until his promotion to deputy chief.
He is a graduate of the FBI's National Academy and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public safety from Lake Superior State University and a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Ferris State University.
