Interim Chief of Police
Joseph Trigg
Interim Chief Joe Trigg was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. He earned an associate's degree at Grand Rapids Community College, continued his education at Grand Valley State University, and graduated from the police academy at Lansing Community College. He was hired by GRPD in 2001. As a patrol officer, he worked primarily in the North Neighborhood Service Area, which included serving as the Community Policing Specialist for three and a half years. As a sergeant, he worked in the East and South Neighborhood Service Areas, leading patrol operations in the South for two years. Chief Trigg was promoted to lieutenant in 2016. He was first assigned to watch command before overseeing the Internal Affairs Unit. As a captain, Chief Trigg was assigned as the commander of the South Neighborhood Service Area.
Chief Trigg has held additional duty assignments as a Field Training Officer, a member of the department's Board of Awards, and as an advisor for Grand Rapids Police Explorer Post 1871, working with young people who are interested in learning about policing as a profession. He is a member of the department's Peer Support Team.

Deputy Police Chief - Administrative and Investigative Services
Michael Maycroft
Deputy Chief Michael Maycroft started his law enforcement career as an officer with the Norton Shores Police Department before joining GRPD in 1997. DC Maycroft has served in a number of capacities over his 27-year career at GRPD, including patrol officer, vice detective, background investigator/recruiter, the supervisor of community policing officers, public information officer, and, as a certified bomb technician, serves as the Bomb Squad Commander. He oversaw the Crime Prevention Unit, including the department's role in providing crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) analysis. He is a member of the Honor Guard, serving as commander from 2014-2021. He was the commander of the North Neighborhood Service Area until his promotion to deputy chief.
He is a graduate of the FBI's National Academy and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public safety from Lake Superior State University and a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Ferris State University.
Acting Deputy Police Chief - Field Operations
P.J. Baker
Acting Deputy Chief P.J. Baker was born and raised in Tecumseh, MI, and in 1996, graduated from The Citadel (The Military College of South Carolina) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. DC Baker was hired by the Grand Rapids Police Department in July 1996, after which, he graduated from the Lansing Community College Police Academy. DC Baker has spent most of his patrol career in the South and East Service Areas. In 2014, he was promoted to sergeant, working as a supervisor in the West Service Area and then the Special Response Team. DC Baker transferred to the Training Unit in 2017 and in 2021, was promoted to lieutenant. He served as a Watch Commander until being assigned as acting captain in July 2023, when he assumed the role of commander of the West Service Area. He continued in that role since his formal promotion to captain in August 2023. In addition, he serves as the commander of the Canine Unit. DC Baker has held additional duty assignments as a Canine Handler, Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor, Crisis Negotiator, and member of the Honor Guard.
