Host a Block Party

Are you planning a block party in your neighborhood? A block party is a great way to celebrate and encourage stronger communities. To support that the City can help you close the road during your party.

Policy & Procedures

  • Block parties are permitted on minor roadways only and strictly limited to one block of a roadway.  To see if you are on a major roadway please check the list of major roadways.
  • As the applicant, you agree to be the Chairperson for this block party and must be over 18 years of age. Chairperson must be a resident of the street.
  • Block parties are intended for residents of the block only and not businesses, organizations, or non-profits.
  • Determine the day you and your neighbors want to close the road for a party.
    • Remember, block parties must begin during daylight hours and end before sunset.
    • Please submit applications at least 7 business days before the party is to take place.
  • A complete petition must be provided with the application: Petition(.docx) or Petition(.pdf)
    • Closing the road can be an inconvenience, so we ask that you get permission from the majority of your neighbors to have your party.
    • The City needs to see written permission from at least 51% of the households on your block to close the road.
    • This includes date & time of party, road name and crossroad names, name of Chairperson, neighbors’ addresses, printed names AND signatures.
    • Incomplete petitions will result in processing delays.
    • Failure to complete and submit petition will result in denial.
  • Petitions are only valid for one use; they may not be used for future applications.
  • There is a non-refundable $30 fee for each application.
  • No temporary structures or vending of goods are permitted in the roadway.

City staff will review your application and will be in touch with you within 7 business days. If approved, the City will deliver the barricades (road closure signs) you need before your party.

Important: On the day of the party, put out the barricades to close the road. After the party, remove the barricades and return them to where they were dropped off by the City.
