Operational Permit Guide

The Grand Rapids Fire Department requires an Operational Fire Permits for businesses that handle, store or use dangerous materials. They are also required for certain facilities of assembly. This guide will help you determine if you need to apply for an Operational Fire Permit.

Apply for Your Operational Fire Permit

Ready to apply? Go to the Fire Department Permits and Inspections page to get your application.

We will process your application once we have received it. A Fire Inspection will contact you to scheduled an inspection if required. and are valid for one year. You will also receive an invoice for your permit. You can see our fees under supporting documents.

Once we receive your payment, we will send you a permit for your records. Please keep this on file for proof of your approval.

Your permit will need renewal. The permit cycle is from January to December.. We will send out a notice when it is time to renew your permit.
