SJERG

Social Justice ERG (SJERG) was born out of the Healing Tensions Series that occurred in the Summer of 2020 as employees sought a space to unpack and process the racial tensions that occurred in May, June and July of that same year. Its mission is to create a safe space of belonging for employees of the City of Grand Rapids through diversity, inclusion, and equity for all. 

SJERG’s vision is to be a resource working to shape personal work relationships, initiatives, and outcomes in the most inclusive way possible. It does this through fostering relationships and providing continuous education and resources in the pursuit of a values-based organizational culture. It also seeks to gather information on how the City of Grand Rapids implements social justice throughout our system. All employees who are or have established a commitment to furthering the vision and mission of SJERG are eligible to join and participate.
