2. Complete the Michigan Form 5076
The form you use to apply for this exemption is a State of Michigan form called the Small Business Property Tax Exemption Claim Under MCL 211.9o.
You can fill out the form on your computer, but you'll need to print it and sign it before submitting the original to our office. Don't have a printer? You can pick up the form at our office, we're located at the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page.

3. Make sure you file on time
This form must be filed with the City Assessor's office no later than February 20. If the 20th falls on a weekend, you have until the next business day to file.
4. Mail your form to our office
If you're ready to submit, mail your completed form to the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page.
5. We'll review your application
The process to review your application can take a few weeks. Whether you're approved or denied, we'll mail you a notice to let you know.
6. Missed the Deadline?
If you missed the February 20th deadline, you still have an opportunity to claim this exemption. You'll need to file an appeal with the March Board of Review.
The March Board of Review will meet on March 19, 2026, to consider late filed claims for exemption. Petitioners must submit 2 forms:
