Apply to Appeal Housing Violations

Do you want to appeal the housing violations you’ve received? You’re in the right place. You can ask for more time to complete repairs, a waiver from the City Code, or new interpretations of City Code. You can also state that you have already fulfilled the necessary repairs.

Consider creating a Citizen Access account

We use a third party application called Citizen Access to receive complaints about vacant housing. You can submit a complaint anonymously without logging in, or create an account and log in first to make it easier for you to track the status of the complaint over time.

Haven't used Citizen Access before? Make sure to review how to create an account before starting.

Check your eligibility

You have to submit your appeal before the Last Appeal Date listed in the upper right corner of the Notice of Violation.

You’re eligible to appeal for:

  • More time to make repairs
  • A review of interpretation of the code
  • A waiver from the code
  • Resolving the violation in another way
You can appeal Nuisance fees. You can't appeal violation fees.

Gather your information

You’ll need to provide the following information:

  • Case Number. This is on the Notice of Violation and in the letters and emails we sent
  • Violation Numbers for items you’re appealing. Find these on the Notice of Violation Letter
  • Description of what you’ve done so far or why you are appealing these violations
  • Violation numbers for items you’ve already fixed
  • Number of years you've owned the property
  • How many properties you own

Have your payment ready

You’ll need to enter your credit/debit card information to pay the $120 appeal fee. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

If you have a limited income, you might qualify for a fee waiver. You must live in the home to qualify. Call or email us to request the form. Our contact information is in the Contact Us section of this page.
