Step 1.Review the registration requirements

To be eligible to register to vote in Grand Rapids, you need to meet these requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be at least 18 years old by election day
  • Must be a resident of Michigan and the City of Grand Rapids

Step 2.Make sure you're registered to vote before updating your registration

Your first step should always be to check your status. You may find that it's correct. If that's the case, then you're all set! You can Check Your Status Online on the State of Michigan's website.

If you're registered to vote, but your details are incorrect, move to the next step. If you're not registered, you'll want to review how to Register to Vote.

Step 3.Make sure you have all the required information

Before you update your status, have the following information ready:

  • Current address
  • Driver's license or State ID number

Step 4.Update your registration online

Keep in mind that if you've changed your name, you need to re-register in person. Visit your Secretary of State branch office. Make sure to bring legal documentation of your name change. They'll need a marriage license or court papers to verify the change.
