New climbing walls open at city park

The City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department today announced the opening of two bouldering structures at Highland Park, 523 Grand Ave NE. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that doesn’t require ropes because the walls are shorter than typical rock-climbing walls.

City, partners to offer free lead-safety training for contractors

The City of Grand Rapids is partnering with the US Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) and Home Repair Services of Kent County to offer free lead-safe work practices training for area contractors on July 28. The training will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Home Repair Services in Grand Rapids. The training will teach how to work safely when disturbing lead-based paint in older homes.

City offices are closed July 4, but pools, splash pads are open

City of Grand Rapids non-emergency offices, departments and the Grand Rapids Public Library are closed Monday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. Grand Rapids’ three pools and 14 splash pads remain open. Refuse, yard waste and recycling services will be delayed one day during the week of July 4.
