City to begin Oak Wilt treatment at Aman Park

The City of Grand Rapids will begin treating 18 oak trees infected with oak wilt at Aman Park today, Friday, June 13, to slow the spread of the deadly tree disease. Aman Park is a 331-acre preserve six miles west of Grand Rapids on Lake Michigan Drive that contains several natural-surface trails through forest and along Sand Creek.

GRFD issues warning about the use and storage of lithium-ion batteries

With electric mobility devices becoming more common across the city, GRFD officials are urging residents and businesses to follow proper charging and storage protocols to reduce the risk of fire or explosion. The department has responded to three separate fires linked to lithium batteries in the past month alone.

City invites Neighborhood Match Fund proposals through June 30

The City of Grand Rapids is once again inviting residents to strengthen their neighborhoods through the Neighborhood Match Fund (NMF), which supports community-led projects that foster connection, inclusion and civic pride. Applications are open now through June 30 for projects occurring between September and February 2026.
