Our mission is to provide high quality, efficient services to the citizens of Grand Rapids as well as within the City government while ensuring the integrity of the systems in which the City operates.

Reports and Resources
The Comptroller's Office produces multiple reports and resources, including annual comprehensive financial reports (ACFR), annual financial reports, internal audit reports, payments issued, small claims reports, and the Resident's Guide to the City's Finances (PAFR).

Total Amount Received and Spent
In Fiscal Year 2024 the City received $192.2 million from taxes (income and property); $60 million from intergovernmental revenues including grants and contributions; $200.3 million from charges for services; and $2.8 million from miscellaneous revenue sources and $26.7 million from investment income 576.7% vs. 2023.
Overall, the city spent $455.3 million last year. Our largest expenditure: $125 million on Public Safety; overall +17.6% vs. 2023.

Max Franz
Max Frantz was appointed by the City Commission in December 2019 to fill the vacant Comptroller position. As City Comptroller, Max oversees our accounting office, which is responsible for internal audits, payroll, accounts payable and accounting services.
