Apply for a Commercial Mechanical Permit

If you are a Mechanical Contractor who will be performing work that requires a Mechanical Permit under the Michigan Mechanical Code or Michigan Residential Code, you need to apply for a permit to ensure the work is completed properly.

If you're a homeowner, you may apply for a Mechanical Permit for your primary residence at the Development Center. Click the “In Person” tab below.

Step 1.Review the Requirements 

  • Identify the quantity and type of all mechanical equipment to be installed 
  • Obtain contact information for the jobsite contact person
  • Be ready to prove your company's federal employer ID number, MESC employer number, and workers compensation insurance carrier

We accept printed mechanical permit applications by mail or in person for mechanical contractors only. We can't accept emailed, or faxed mechanical permit applications. If you're a homeowner, visit our office to submit or complete the application. You can find our address in the Contact Us section of this page.

If you're mailing your application, payment must be by check. If you're submitting in person, you can pay with cash, check, money order or credit/debit.
