GRow1000 Youth Employment Program

GRow1000 Summer Youth Employment Program

GRow1000 was launched the summer of 2020 in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing racial and economic disparities. City Manager Mark Washington called on business and community leaders to help mitigate these effects by employing 1,000 young people during the summer. Over the last six summers, the GRow1000 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) has employed nearly 1,400 youth in meaningful jobs at unique job sites at area businesses, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions and government.

Please Note: The GRow1000 Youth Application is now open Summer of 2026.

All applications -AND- pre-employment paperwork is due by Friday, May 8th.

IMPORTANT

Please Note: This year, the City of Grand Rapids and Our Community’s Children has partnered with Management Business Solutions (MBS), a local staffing agency, to provide direct administrative support for the GRow1000 SYEP. MBS will be responsible for hosting the youth application on their website, collecting and verifying necessary application documents, providing interview support to Our Community’s Children and its partners, and processing GRower paychecks during the 6-week employment experience.

Our Community’s Children, a public-private partnership between the City of Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Public Schools, and community partners will continue to manage all other aspects of the GRow1000 Summer Youth Employment Program.
