File a Human Rights Complaint

Were you subject to discrimination, harassment or a bias crime? File a complaint and we'll investigate.

Step 1.Recall the incident

We'll ask you for the following information, based on your incident:

  • Date, time and location of the incident
  • The person or business' details. We'll need at least a name. The more information you're able to provide us, the better able we'll be able to process your complaint
  • Details about the discrimination (if applicable)
  • Details about the harassment (if applicable)

Step 3.We'll review your complaint

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), with the City Attorney’s Office, will review your complaint.

After their review, ODI will take appropriate action. This includes:

  1. Referring you to an appropriate local, state or federal entity for further investigation and action
  2. Investigating the complaint under the Human Rights Ordinance
  3. Arranging mediation between the involved parties
  4. Dismissing the complaint if the allegations don't constitute a violation of this ordinance

Action on your complaint will be taken within 90 days of receiving the complaint. If additional time is need, you'll be notified.

Step 4.We'll review your complaint
