Check if your eligible 

The Conditional Rescission is a way for you keep your PRE on a house you are having difficulty selling. It can only be applied for up to 3 years.

If you have a property in Michigan that you are trying to sell but are unable to, you might be able to keep the PRE, even if you have a PRE on another property in Michigan. The conditions for the property are:

  • It's for sale. We'll verify that it's listed
  • It's not occupied or leased. You can't rent it out or let someone live there
  • It's not being used for business or commercial use

Complete the Michigan Form 4640

This is a State of Michigan form called the Conditional Rescission of Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) Affidavit. You'll need to file the form on or before June 1st of the first year, and before December 31st for the two following years.

You can fill out the form on your computer, you'll just need to print it and sign it before turning in the original to the City Assessor's office. Don't have a printer? You can pick up the form at our office, we're located at the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page.

If you're approved we'll update our records and your exemption will remain on file. Remember, you have to refile for each year, up to 3 years. If you're denied, we'll mail you a letter to let you know.
