Apply for Accessible Parking on a Residential Street

Do you need a handicap parking space on your residential street? You can apply for it here.

Step 1.Check Your Eligibility

Before you fill out the application, keep in mind:

  • Your application won't be approved if you have a driveway or any other off-street parking
  • You need to be a resident of the address on your application
  • You're eligible if you are non-ambulatory (not able to walk)
  • Handicap parking spaces are not allowed on major streets or in front of commercial properties
  • Handicap parking spaces are only provided for a qualifying resident, not someone who provides your transportation

Step 2.Gather Your Documentation

When you submit your application, you need to include all of the following documentation:

  • A copy of your current operator's license
  • A copy of your state handicap sticker, placard or plate
  • A signed letter from your Doctor stating you are "non-ambulatory". If their letter doesn't say those exact words, your application may be delayed or denied 

We'll ask you to upload copies of these documents in the online application. Don't have these when you're applying? Not a problem! You can mail them or drop them off at our office. We're located at the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page.

Step 3.Fill Out the Online Form

Step 4.Wait to Hear From Us

Our traffic technicians review your application within 2 business days. 

We'll let you know if your application has been denied or approved within 1 week. We might contact you before that if we have questions.

Step 5.We Install the Handicap Parking Sign

If we approve your application, it can take a few weeks to install the handicap parking sign. The sign doesn't say your name or address. Anyone with a handicap placard or plate may park in that space.
