Property Taxes

Need to pay your property taxes? Make your payment online here or over the phone through GR PayIt at 1-888-861-7956 option 4. Please note there is a 2.98% convenience fee when paying with a credit or debit card. For online payments you can avoid the fee by paying by eCheck. 1. Before we get started

A couple of notes on grpayit:

  • Security. Rest assured that your payment information is encrypted when it's submitted and securely stored by a third party. These practices are PCI DSS compliant.
  • Goodbye processing fees. There are no processing fees when making payments for water bills, paying for parking tickets or adding funds to your refuse account in grpayit.

2. Locate your property tax bill

Search your address on BS&A Online to look up your tax bill history and current tax bill. You'll leave this site and go to BS&A Online to conduct this search.

3. Payment timeline

When you make a payment through grpayit, the payment goes through the following business day by noon. If you make a payment on a holiday, it'll be posted the following business day by noon. 

4. Decide your payment option

You can pay online with credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) with a 2.98% convenience fee or pay with eCheck without a fee.

5. Make your payment

Create an account, pay as a guest or login to grpayit. You'll find all your City bills in one place, with one sign-on. You decide when and how much to pay. We'll add it to your cart and process your payment with no added fees.

Pay it online

1. Locate your property tax bill

Search your address on BS&A Online to look up your tax bill history and current tax bill. You'll leave this site and go to BS&A Online to conduct this search. 

Gather your information

Make sure to include the following information on your check:

  • Parcel number - write this on the memo line
  • Tax year
  • Cycle (summer or winter)

2. Prepare your payment

We accept check or money order for mailed payments. Make checks out to Grand Rapids City Treasurer. Check out the property tax payment options to decide which one works best for you.

3. Mail your payment

Mail your check or money order to us Attn: Treasurer's Office at the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page. Remember that you should never send cash in the mail. Keep in mind that it takes 5-7 business days for the US Postal Service to deliver mail to us.

Make sure to mail your payment at least 5-7 business days before your payment is due. We accept payments as on time if they're postmarked by the due date and we'll process your payment as soon as possible.

1. Locate your property tax bill

Search your address on BS&A Online to look up your tax bill history and current tax bill. You'll leave this site and go to BS&A Online to conduct this search. 

Gather your information

Make sure to have this information ready:

  • Parcel number
  • Tax year
  • Cycle (summer or winter)

2. Prepare your payment

We accept credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) for phone payments. Keep in mind that we charge a 2.98% fee for payments over the phone.

3. Give us a call

We use a third party called GR PayIt to take payments over the phone. Call 1-888-861-7956 option 4 to make your summer or winter tax bill payment.

Search your address on BS&A Online to look up your tax bill history and current tax bill. You'll leave this site and go to BS&A Online to conduct this search. 

Check the payment timeline

We accept payments according to this timeline:

Summer tax payments       Winter tax payments   
July 1 - February 28    December 1 - February 28


If you want to make a payment between March 1 through June 30, contact Kent County at (616) 632-7500.

2. Bring your payment

We accept cash, check, money order and credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) for in person payments. Be prepared to pay up to a 2.98% convenience fee ($1.50 minimum) if you pay with a credit/debit card.

3. Park and pay at City Hall

Visit us between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday through Friday at City Hall. We're closed on weekends and holidays. We're located at the address listed in the Contact Us section of this page. You have two options to pay:

  • Customer Service windows on the Monroe Level: if you bring a copy of your bill and if you're paying only one property at a time
  • Treasurer's Office on the 2nd floor: if you have several payments or don't have a copy of your bill

We'll validate 30 minutes of free parking in the Government Center Ramp while you make your payment. We'll give this to you at the counter. We don't validate for metered parking.

4. Drop off your payment after hours

Pay when it's convenient for you and drop off your check or money order payment in the dropbox. We empty the dropbox at 8AM and process payments in 2 business days. If you drop off your payment after 8AM, we'll collect and process it two business days after that. When we collect your payment from the dropbox, we mark it as paid as of the prior business day.

You can find the dropbox across the street from City Hall at 300 Ottawa Ave NW.

Ottawa is a one-way street heading south and the dropbox will be on your left, the east side of the street.
