Create a Citizen Access account
We use a third party application called Citizen Access for our permits and licensing applications. If you've never used Citizen Access, we recommend that you review how to create an account before starting your application.
Step 2.Make sure you have time to apply
This application will take about 10 minutes once you've gathered the required information identified in the steps below. You will be able to save your application and resume later if you need more time.
Step 3.Review the requirements
Your fence should be a minimum of 30 inches and no taller than 6 feet.
When planning your fence, make sure to install it:
- With the finished side facing outward
- Using manufacturer's/industry standards
- On your property only. It should not be installed in a public right-of-way(Show info)
- As shown on the site plan you will attach to your application
The Zoning Ordinance prohibits the use of these materials:
- Chain link in the front yard
- Barbed wire
- Razor wire
- Concertina wire
- Electrified wire
- Slats with a chain link fence
- Used materials
- Found objects (such as old doors, etc.)

Step 4.Plan your fence
During the application process you will need to upload a site drawing of the location and height of the fence. Include the exact locations and dimensions of the property lines, buildings, driveways, streets, and alleys. There are two types of fence: residential and commercial.
Step 5.Have your credit/debit card ready
You'll need to enter your credit/debit card information to pay the permit fee. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
Step 6.Apply online
Login to Citizen Access and choose the Planning Applications category using the link below.
Step 7.We'll review your application
Expect to hear from us within 1-2 business days. We'll email you to confirm receipt of your application. Keep in mind that you may need to revise your plans if we notice any missing or incorrect information.
