City names new parks, community development and utilities directors

The City of Grand Rapids today announced the appointments of three veteran leaders to serve as department directors following rigorous selection processes. Laura Cleypool has been named parks and recreation director, Selma Tucker has been appointed community development director and Wayne Jernberg will serve as the utilities director.

Grand Rapids residents have two options for the disposal of live-cut Christmas trees after the holidays. The City’s Christmas tree collection program offers free drop-off disposal and fee-based curbside pickup. Both options are environmentally friendly, with trees recycled through chipping and composting.

City office closings; refuse and recycling delayed during holidays

Most City of Grand Rapids offices are closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday. They also are closed Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. City offices are open for business between the holidays on December 26, 29, 30 and 31. Refuse and recycling curbside collection will not take place on Christmas or New Year’s Day.
