Make sure you are eligible to serve as an election worker

You can serve as an election worker if you meet these requirements:

  • You are 16 years old or older
  • You are a registered voter in the State of Michigan, if you are 18 years old or older
  • You are not a candidate or a member of a candidates immediate family
  • You are not an election challenger appointed by a political party or qualified group or organization
  • You are not a member of the local Board of Canvassers
  • You have not been convicted of a felony or election crime

Make sure you can perform the duties

  • The ability to move and lift more than 20 pounds
  • The ability to deal with the public in a courteous, patient, and efficient manner
  • The ability to sustain long periods of sitting and standing throughout the day
  • The ability to attend all required training
  • The ability to work at any polling location within the city limits
  • The ability to work for at least 15 hours; from 6:00 am until after 8:00 pm.
  • Computer skills preferred

While working on election day is a great way to serve your community, you also get paid. Here's a look at how you'll be compensated:

ELECTION DAY 

INSPECTORS

  • $175 for election day service
  • $200 for E-Pollbook Workers
  • $25 for each training session attended

CHAIRPERSONS

  • $225 for election day service
  • $25 for each training session attended

EARLY VOTING (8 HOUR DAY)

INSPECTORS

  • $120 for early voting service
  • $135 for E-Pollbook Workers

CHAIRPERSONS

  • $150 for early voting service

If your application is complete and you qualify to help during the election, we'll contact you. We'll schedule your training session to get you ready for Election Day.
