City prepares to welcome thousands Downtown for fireworks spectacular

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Saturday, Grand Rapids will welcome thousands of visitors Downtown for its annual Grand Rapids Fireworks, presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in celebration of Independence Day and our nation’s 250th birthday. In advance of crowds gathering for the spectacular display, the City of Grand Rapids is issuing tips for navigating Downtown and enjoying the fireworks with family, friends and neighbors.

The July 4 spectacular, which promises to be an amazing experience for families across West Michigan, is free and open to the public.  Riverbank Events and Media, home of the Amway River Bank Run and Gentex Santa Parade is coordinating the live entertainment which kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Amway Hotel Employee parking lot located on the corner of Fulton Street and Market Avenue (51 Market Ave SW). The viewing area includes the Meijer family fun zone, food vendors and vendor exhibits. The family activities continue until 10:30 p.m. and the start of the fireworks display.

With the work beginning on the river restoration project and Ah-Nab-Awan Park being closed, a new launch location needed to be selected. Amway Hotel Corporation kindly stepped up and offered their employee parking area as a viewing and family fun location. The office of Special Events, Grand Rapids Police and Fire Departments all worked together to ensure we could celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
