Meter Readers

The Water System employs meter readers who help ensure accurate readings for approximately 58,600 water meters across the city.

Meters are normally read every three months, allowing us to bill our customers quarterly.

Meter Readers drive vehicles clearly marked with the City of Grand Rapids logo. They also wear high-visibility safety vests and carry City of Grand Rapids identification badges.

Your safety is important. If you have any concerns about the identity of a meter reader—or any City of Grand Rapids employee—please call 3-1-1 or 616-456-3000 to verify their identity.

Meters

A water meter is a device that measures the amount of water used on your property. Water meters are typically located in the basement and are connected by a wire to an exterior remote reading device, allowing meter readings to be collected without entering the home.
