City of Grand Rapids Policies Regarding Immigration Status and Equal Access to Services
The City of Grand Rapids is committed to providing equitable access to City services for all residents, consistent with City policies and ordinances. The Grand Rapids Police Department operates under its Foreign Nationals Policy, Impartial Policing Policy, City Commission Policy 600-17 (Equal Services Regardless of Immigration Status and/or National Origin), and the City's Human Rights Ordinance. The City does not operate a jail and does not have a 287(g) agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Any agreement of this nature would require action consistent with the City's legal authority and governance structure. The City remains committed to serving all residents with fairness, dignity, and respect while carrying out its responsibilities under applicable law.
