GRow1000 Business Partner Registration

GRow1000 was launched the summer of 2020 in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing racial and economic disparities. City Manager Mark Washington called on business and community leaders to help mitigate these effects by employing 1,000 young people during the summer. Over the last six summers, the GRow1000 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) has employed nearly 1,400 youth in meaningful jobs at unique job sites at area businesses, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions and government.

Now returning for our 7th year of GRow1000, we are excited to introduce the following updates the 2026 summer youth employment program:

-       Hourly wages for all participants increased to $15.00 per hour

-       New and innovative job placement opportunities with worksite partners in leading industries throughout the Grand Rapids area

-       Paid job shadow opportunities held on-site prior to the 1st day of work

-       Pre-program interviews with supportive staff members to assist with worksite matching and career interests

-       Updated weekly professional development topics and facilitators hosted each Friday throughout the 6-week program

Program participants (GRowers) will report to work is Monday, June 8th. The last day employees will report to work is Friday, July 17th. GRowers will be matched with employers for a 6-week, 120-hour, paid work experience. Through this experience, area businesses and organizations will introduce young adults to real-world work environments and create pathways to future careers.

With the help of interested businesses and organizations, the GRow1000 SYEP will provide meaningful work opportunities to young people across Grand Rapids. These opportunities are critical in helping youth:

  • Get real workplace experience
  • Enhance their job readiness skills
  • Explore future career interests
  • Connect with area professionals and education pathways
