Studio Days at MLK provide young people with college resources this summer
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Our Community’s Children (OCC) – now located at the new MLK Community Center – will host Studio Days at MLK this summer. Studio Days at MLK are dedicated to assisting young people and their families with starting, continuing or finishing their college degree attainment journey.
OCC’s post-secondary work typically occurs at the T2C Studio: Grand Rapids Center for College Success (located on the 3rd floor of the downtown public library) but this summer OCC is adding a new, temporary location in which to offer its services. Appointments are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June 24 through August 20 by clicking here. Drop-ins are also welcome.
Services at Studio Days at MLK will include the following: financial aid application assistance (FAFSA), scholarship search, meet and greet opportunities with college representatives, college success workshops, social events, essay review, best fit college assessments and more.
"We believe that college is possible for our young people when strategic partnerships and aligned support are not only available, but also visible,” said OCC executive director Shannon L. Harris. “Furthermore, college preparation, persistence and retention doesn’t stop during the summer months and to pilot the delivery of services within a neighborhood is our absolute honor.”
