Free Water Pool-ooza events celebrate Grand Rapids' water systems

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The City of Grand Rapids is inviting families to dive into the fascinating world of water with two free, hands-on community events designed to educate, inspire, and connect residents with the systems that deliver and protect our region’s clean water.

Water Pool-ooza at the Lakeshore!

May 30 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lake Michigan Filtration Plant

Water Pool-ooza at the Lakeshore! is a free family event (ages 9+) offering an exciting, behind-the-scenes look at where Grand Rapids’ drinking water comes from and how it is treated and protected before it reaches homes and businesses. Families will experience:

    • Guided tours of the Lake Michigan Filtration Plant
    • Interactive activities led by water professionals
    • Opportunities to learn about water conservation, real-world water careers, and ways to become a champion of clean, fresh water in the community

June 13 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For the best experience, arrive at the Leslie E. Tassell MTEC Building, 22 Godfrey S.W., for hands-on learning stations and activities, and then take the free shuttle two minutes down the road to the WRRF to take a tour of the plant, then ride the shuttle back.

This free event (ages 9+) gives families an up-close look at what happens after water leaves the home. Visitors will explore:

    • Guided tours of the City’s Water Resource Recovery Facility
    • Demonstrations on how wastewater is cleaned, treated, and returned to the environment
    • Hands-on learning stations led by industry professionals
    • Insights into water-sector careers and everyday actions that help protect our water systems
