City and Community Leaders to Celebrate Opening of New Unity Park in Roosevelt Park Neighborhood
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The City of Grand Rapids invites community members and media to join local leaders on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 4–5 p.m. for the official ribbon cutting and celebration of the new Unity Park, located at 680 Cesar E. Chavez Avenue SW.
This milestone marks a significant step in the ongoing transformation of the Roosevelt Park neighborhood. The $2.23 million park was designed in close partnership with residents to reflect the community’s culture, history, and priorities, offering new opportunities for gathering, play, and environmental sustainability.
Speakers will include Mayor David LaGrand, City Manager Mark Washington, Parks and Recreation Director Laura Cleypool, and representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Kent County and Grandville Avenue Arts & Humanities.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the park’s inclusive play areas, shaded seating, flexible gathering spaces, sustainable landscaping features, and new accessibility improvements.
The project is supported by the Michigan Enhancement Grant and the Parks Capital Fund, with key contributions from numerous neighborhood and nonprofit partners.
All are welcome to join this celebration of a vibrant new public space designed for residents of all ages and abilities.
