Celebrate Grand Rapids’ public servants at Riverside Park
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The City invites the public to join Mayor David LaGrand, City Manager Mark Washington and other officials in celebrating Grand Rapids community volunteers, board members, neighborhood organizations, and City employees on Friday, Oct. 9. The recognition luncheon runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park, where the City will serve hot dogs and offer family-friendly games and giveaways.
Washington said the City’s public servants — 360 residents serving on 55 boards and commissions; and more than 1,600 full-time employees and 693 part-time employees — show the character, spirit and diversity of Grand Rapids and help deliver a government that serves its people.
“I am grateful for our resident volunteers and City employees who dedicate their talent and passion to the service of others and continually go above customer expectations,” Washington said. “They truly elevate the quality of life of our residents and customers by performing excellent City services throughout the year. I thank all of them for their commitment to delivering compassionate and caring public services to our West Michigan community.”
Washington encouraged residents who want to get involved to consider applying for City jobs or serving on a board or commission. “The invaluable talent, experience and time that you have may transform our community for the better,” he said.
