Water Pool-ooza on the Grand!

Event Description

This event provides students with hands-on activities taught by water professionals, community partners, and non-profits that are designed to expose students to a wide variety of water related issues and careers in water. Such as, kayaking with parks, water sampling in the Grand River, and other fun activities! By actively participating in Water Pool-ooza students gain an understanding of the diverse topics related to our water resources and begin to understand their role as water stewards and champions!

Water Pool-ooza activities will continue in light rain, but severe weather may result in cancellation. Event organizers will email registrants regarding any necessary adjustments to the schedule.

o Learn what it takes to become a Grand Rapids firefighter! Come explore a firetruck and try out the firefighting equipment, including spraying water from a fire hose!

• City of Grand Rapids Public Works Department

o Touch-a-Truck: Get up close to a variety of utility vehicles, climb inside, honk the horns, and meet the Grand Rapids heroes responsible for advancing the quality of life for all through excellent public service!

• Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds

o Aquatic macroinvertebrate identification lab: Learn how to identify macroinvertebrates and how it relates to understanding water quality!

• GR Outside

o Drop-in Kayaking: Participants must meet age requirement, sign a liability form, and follow the safety guidelines.

Sponsors:

o Fishbeck has donated $250 in gift cards for attendees participating in the event. Attendees who complete an activity passport have a chance to win a $25 gift card.
