GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The community is invited to the swearing-in of newly appointed City Manager Mark Washington. The ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 in the ninth-floor Commission Chambers at City Hall, 300 Monroe Ave. NW. A City Commission meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
The event will include remarks by Washington, a brief opportunity for community members to talk with him one on one and light refreshments. Validated parking is available in the Government Center Ramp off Monroe and Ottawa avenues. Contact the City Clerk’s Office at 616.456.3010 (TDD: 616.456.3980) to request special services due to a disability.
The City Commission appointed Washington as city manager in late July. He will begin in the role Oct. 1.
“I am eager to be a Grand Rapidian,” Washington said. “I look forward to spending time with the City Commission, City staff, partners and community stakeholders to listen to their ideas and concerns and dig deeper into the issues that are important to our city.”
Washington has worked in local government for 22 years, most recently as assistant city manager in Austin, Texas.
“We hope residents and others in the community join us for this special event,” Mayor Rosalynn Bliss said. “This is the start of an exciting chapter in our city’s history.”
