Road construction around Studio Park project advances; Weston and Oakes streets also affected

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Beginning Thursday, April 26, northbound Ottawa Avenue will close between Oakes and Weston streets through July 2. Southbound Ottawa will remain open with access to westbound Oakes.  However, Weston will be closed between Ottawa and Arena Place from Thursday to May 1. Parking also will be restricted in the closed area.

This latest phase of road construction is in anticipation of the Studio Park development – set to break ground in May. The City continues to make changes to surrounding streets ahead of the groundbreaking. Road work will continue through late summer and resume next year. Planned changes include removing the northbound and southbound U.S. 131 business routes between Cherry and Oakes streets and extending Ottawa between Cherry and Oakes.

The tentative schedule for remaining phases is as follows:

Phase 4: August
Ionia between Cherry and Oakes will be closed for utility work.

Phase 5: August – September
Cherry between U.S. 131 business routes and Ionia will be closed for storm sewer, street lighting and street widening work.

Phase 6: June – July 2019
The addition of a new segment of Ottawa between Oakes and Cherry will bring street lighting, sidewalk and landscaping work. No street detours are anticipated for this phase of construction.
