GRow 1000

Are you between 15 - 21 years old and interested in a summer job? We're accepting applications from high school students for our summer youth employment program, GRow 1000.

GRow 1000 is a summer employment program for local teens and young adults between the ages of 15-21 years-old. This program's goals are to:

  • Provide young people with summer employment opportunities that will enhance their job readiness skills
  • To help young people explore future career interests and earn income

The GRow 1000 program will match youth to a variety of employment fields including:

  • Local government
  • Healthcare providers
  • Manufacturers
  • Education
  • Business
  • More!  

GRow 1000 participants will receive paid training and earn $10.00/hr. for 20 hours each week. The program is for 6 weeks from July 13, 2020 through August 21, 2020.

Make sure you're eligible for the program. Successful applicants are those who:

  • Are between the ages of 15-21 (as of July 22, 2020)
  • Live in the Grand Rapids city limits
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Before starting your summer job you'll need to attend a virtual training. After your application has been received, you'll receive an email with your assigned training date and time.

The training will take place from 10 AM - 2 PM on the following dates:

  • Monday 6/29
  • Tuesday 6/30
  • Wednesday 7/1
  • Thursday 7/2
  • Monday 7/6
  • Tuesday 7/7
  • Thursday 7/9
  • Friday 7/10

You will also be required to watch 1 hour of additional trainings on your own time.


Your training will cover the following topics:

  • Program orientation (program overview, stipends, expectations, etc.)
  • Workplace safety protocols
  • Workplace etiquette
  • Dressing for success
  • Stress and conflict management

Your summer job will start on or around Monday, July 13. It will then be done on or around Friday, August 14.

You may work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. Your hours may occur evenings, weekends or week days.
