We have been awarded a $5.1 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for private lead service line replacements. The City will have a 10 percent local match of $571,390, and the total project cost is just over $5.7 million.
The grant will help replace approximately 1,608 private lead service lines in the next four years in Neighborhoods of Focus (NOF). The replacements will occur in census tracts 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32,35, 36, 37, and 38. The project will target the neighborhoods highlighted in the map below in 2021 and 2022.
This project will replace lead service lines between the curb box and water meter with copper water services in addition to sidewalk and lawn restoration. In previous years, lead service line replacement on private property has been the responsibility of the homeowner.
Tenants and property owners will receive a letter, door hanger, or call informing them of their upcoming lead service line replacement and steps on how to begin the process.
